Matt Cutts: at PubCon 2013 Las Vegas on SEO, Hummingbird and More

There has been ample press coverage of the latest Google algorithm update know as Hummingbird. Matt Cutts, the Google Fellow in charge of anti-spam fighting and the spokesperson for Google updates spoke about Hummingbird at a recent Pubcon session. Pubcon is one of the oldest and best established conferences for internet and social marketers. Naturally this audience was on pins and needles when Matt Cutts simply stated that Hummingbird was not that big a deal. He suggested that all this change was intended to do was to eliminate unnecessary words from long search queries or from spoken search queries.  An example he gave was someone search for “ever loving Texas”. The Hummingbird change was intended to be able to pick up that “ever-loving” had nothing to do with the search and therefore serve no results having to do with this phrase. - See more at: http://www.storage-mart.com/blog/self-storage-marketing/google-hummingbird-flies-world-storage/#sthash.zcO0vnru.dpuf

Deployment & Wrapup - Udacity HTML5 Game Development Study Group

Google forks WebKit with new Blink rendering engine for Chrome and Opera

Big news for the web today: Google has announced that it's going to stop using WebKit as the rendering engine that's behind displaying web pages in Chrome. Instead, it's forking WebKit to create its own rendering engine, called "Blink." The move, Google says, is to speed up development on Chrome thanks to reducing complexity. Chrome uses some slightly different processes for making web pages load (a "multi-process architecture," which helps keep your other tabs running when a web page crashes), and trying to mesh its technical setup with the rest of WebKit — most well known as Apple's rendering engine on Safari — was apparently making things more complicated than they needed to be.
What does this mean for the larger web? That remains to be seen. Firstly, since it's a fork of WebKit, presumably web developers won't need to do too much to support Blink and Chrome — but later on that may change. There are a lot of websites — especially mobile web sites — that specifically target WebKit browsers to the detriment of other browsers like Firefox and Internet Explorer. With this transition, Google is betting that web developers will move away from that specific targeting and move towards a more standard-based approach. Whether web standards can move quickly enough is an open question, but at first blush this looks like it could be good news for Microsoft and Mozilla.
Opera, which just switched to WebKit, is also involved. Opera's Bruce Lawson says that it will be "Opera will be contributing to Blink in the future," and that it will be "the new engine that will power Opera's browsers."
As for what it means for Apple, probably very little in the short term. WebKit, and Safari in particular, are the dominant force in the mobile web and any changes to web pages to support Blink probably won't hurt the way web pages work on Safari. In fact, reducing complication in WebKit, an open source project, could mean that Apple will also be able to develop its projects more quickly.
This was not an easy decision. We know that the introduction of a new rendering engine can have significant implications for the web. Nevertheless, we believe that having multiple rendering engines—similar to having multiple browsers—will spur innovation and over time improve the health of the entire open web ecosystem.
As for other changes, well, we'll need to wait and see what innovations Google is going to build into Blink and Chrome. One hopeful sign on the Google's site describing Blink mentioned "out-of-process iframes," which break up web page rendering into smaller, discrete process. That could allow web apps to act more like native apps and, theoretically, mean that when something within the web page dies (like Flash, for example), it might not bring down the whole page.
Most interesting of all is what this could mean for Google — it currently is trying to gain traction with Chrome OS, which of course is based almost entirely on the Chrome browser. A more powerful rendering engine could mean more powerful and useful apps within Chrome OS.
When will all this nerdy, web-rendering news start affecting consumers? It's not clear yet. Blink appears to be brand new and it will take some time before Chrome switches over to the new rendering engine.

An Update to Zynga.com
Hi. We’re excited to share an update on the evolution of Zynga.com, our destination for play, which is enabling a community around games that people love.
We initially rolled out the beta of Zynga.com, to innovate on more ways to play and to introduce you to more people to play with. What we saw with Zynga.com is a dedicated fan base around our biggest games. Fans who are excited to be connected to each other and form friends and communities around the games they share a passion for. Zynga.com enabled us to build new features that made play more fun and social such as real-time multiplayer, or the live Social Stream where you can tap into the community of players to help you progress in your game. What we’ve seen is that players like you engage with more people and come back to play again and again.
This beta enabled us to do a lot more than innovate on new ways to play — it also gave us an opportunity to have a real dialogue with you about things you want and care about.  We heard you want a place that is even more dedicated to games and allows you to easily find and connect with other players.  We heard you want to share your big wins, level ups and in-game achievements, with players who love the games you do. You also want to create a unique player name like you do in Words With Friends and Draw Something.
We appreciate this feedback and are excited to bring you a new Zynga.com. So what’s new? Starting next week, when you visit Zynga.com you will see a new streamlined signup that lets you create your own account just for playing games. We also wanted to make sure that existing Zynga.com players continue to have the best experience possible so you don’t have to start from scratch.  All players will have the option to connect with Facebook and keep your game friends and game progress, while deciding what you share with your gaming community.
We thank you for the valuable feedback and hope you enjoy what we believe is a natural evolution of Zynga.com.  We’ve kept a lot of the great features like live Social Stream, Fast Load and Online Presence which lets you see who else is playing right now.  Some of your favorite games will be on the new site at launch and we will continue to work hard to bring you more great games and new features over the coming weeks and months.
We also want to thank all our Zynga partners – the third party developers who helped bring you more ways to play on Zynga.com. Without our partners we wouldn’t be able to introduce you to some of the most fun and entertaining games on the site – RPGs like Legends: Rise of a Hero and an awesome sim game like Village Life. We know it’s a challenge to keep up with platform changes as we’ve been through it a few times ourselves, so we’re fully committed to working closely with all our partners to make this update as simple and painless as we possibly can. For any developers who are interested in getting their social games in front of millions of people who love to play, please visit us at developers.zynga.com/partners.
Together with our partners, we look forward to continuing to build the best destination for play on Zynga.com.

The New Zynga.com Accounts and You!

Zynga Another BUT HUGE CHANGE!!!  stepping to master there owen sever network..

zyngalogopress-release-zynga
A little over a year ago, we launched Zynga.com to be the best destination for games. Since then, you’ve been able to level up faster by getting the help you need when you need it and find friendly competition whenever you want it. It has been amazing to share that with you, but we felt we could make your play experience even better, so we continued to work behind the scenes to produce an upgraded Zynga.com. We’re excited to share the results with you today!
We considered your many requests for us to separate your Zynga.com account from your Facebook account, and decided to do exactly that! Gone are the days you log in to Zynga.com with your Facebook email address and password. Instead, you’ll use your Zynga login, on which you’ll have the opportunity to continue your Facebook game progress once you update your account. You’ll then be able to play your games on either Zynga.com with your zFriends or Facebook with your Facebook friends (yes, you’ll still be able to play your games on Facebook if you want to), and all progress you make will be reflected in both places. Upgrading your account ensures you have the freedom to keep your social network completely separate from your game network when you play on Zynga.com. This means no more accidentally posting to your Facebook friends or alerting your boss to the fact that you’re tending to your farm, city, and kingdom instead of your work!
These are some of our most exciting upgrades to-date, and we look forward to bringing more awesome features to Zynga.com in the months ahead! Update your account to join us as we move closer to our vision of an online community whereeveryone plays.
Welcome to the future of Play,
The Zynga.com Crew
